Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgery
Plastic surgery restores physical function; It is a surgical medicine specialty that works on the reduction of accidents, diseases, congenital defects and disorders. The word "plastic" is taken from the ancient Greek word "plastos" and means to shape. Plastic surgery also includes aesthetic surgery that aims to shape the facial and bodily features and improve the appearance of the person.
The Department of Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgery started its studies with the founding of Kocaeli University Research and Application Hospital in 1994. Our department provides training and services in the field of general plastic surgery and hand surgery, reconstructive microsurgery, diagnosis and treatment of maxillofacial fractures, burn treatment and surgical or non-surgical aesthetic surgery applications.
In our modern building in the Umuttepe Campus of our department, a team of doctors consisting of 2 faculty members and 14 research assistants, provides service with a staff of nurses and health technicians who are experts in their fields. After the surgeries we perform in all areas of plastic surgery, patient follow-up and treatment are carried out in 2-person and single-person patient rooms. Plastic Surgery polyclinic provides service every weekday.
Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgery operations are performed every weekday under general and 2 days under local anesthesia. Elective burn patients are performed in our burn unit on Fridays. Necessary surgeries or interventions can be performed in emergency cases in a very short time after the preliminary evaluation in our emergency department. In 2021, more than 2000 surgeries were performed in total, and more than 7000 patients were examined and treated.
The working hours of the polyclinic are between 09.00 and 16.00 . Every day of the week, daily patient examinations and visits continue routinely. On Fridays, polyclinic services are carried out between 11:00 and 16:00 after the meeting. On Friday mornings, a general visit where our inpatients are evaluated collectively, the activity report and other scientific meetings - seminars and article hours - where the whole week is evaluated are held. In our meetings where all patients are discussed on a scientific platform, the most appropriate follow-up and treatment plan is drawn for our patients.
Student education started in 1999-2000 according to the practical and theoretical education program prepared. Within the framework of the education and training program of our faculty, our department takes place in the form of 2-week internship training applied to Term IV students in 4 groups.
Many scientific researches are carried out in our department and they routinely participate in scientific meetings at home and abroad.
