Ophthalmology
KOÜ Faculty of Medicine Department of Ophthalmology was founded by Professor Yusuf Çağlar in 1992. He has been serving at Derince Sopalı Hospital between 1995-2005 and at Kocaeli University Hospital in Umuttepe Campus since June 2005. Our service continues with 2 professors and 3 assistant professors and 14 research assistants.
Our Service Capacity and Localizations:
- Outpatient services: 50 patients per day (by appointment)
- Ophthalmology Service: Our 21 modern inpatient service is located on the 3rd floor of the main building.
- Retina Department: 90 patients per day in the outpatient clinic
- Glaucoma Department: 30 patients a day in the outpatient clinic
- Strabismus Department: 30 patients a day in the outpatient clinic
- Cornea Department: 30 patients a day in the outpatient clinic
- Oculoplastics Department: 15 patients a day in the outpatient clinic
- Cataract Department: 20 patients a day in the outpatient clinic
- Retinopathy of prematurity: 20 patients per week in the neonatal outpatient clinic
- Visual field: 20 patients per day in the outpatient clinic
Research Assistant Training Process:
- 2 physician who pass TUS every year starts to work.
- Research assistant training period is 4 years.
- Research assistant anesthesia rotation
- Research assistants shifts: adjusted according to seniority and determined as on-call physicians.
- If possible, all research assistants are supported to attend domestic and international courses and congresses.

- Diagnosis, follow-up and treatment of corneal patients
- Follow-up and treatment of retinopathy of prematurity
- Diagnosis, follow-up and treatment of oculoplasty patients
- Diagnosis, follow-up and treatment of cataract patients
It is performed successfully in our clinic, which has all the technical and infrastructure of modern eye diseases.
