Gynecology
Kocaeli University Obstetrics and Gynecology clinic educates medical students and residents with evidence based medicine and scientific approach since its foundation. Besides educational activities, a wide range of service is provided in all fields of obstetrics and gynecology in outpatient clinics, inpatient wards and surgical procedures are performed with modern medical equipments.
Prenatal Care And Delivery :
We aim a safe and comprehensive care during pregnancy, labor and postpartum periods. In our obstetrics clinic, ultrasonographic imaging, screening tests and tests for fetal well being are used for routine pregnancy follow up. Complicated pregnancies are hospitalised in Obstetrics and Gynecology ward and managed accordingly with other departments. In 24 hours open labour ward, normal vaginal delivery, delivery with epidural anesthesia and in medically indicated patients cesarean section are performed.
Family Planning :
The aim of family planning program is to provide care about contraception regarding timing of pregnancy and number of children as the couples desire. In our clinic contraceptive counseling is provided. For medically complicated patients (hemorrhagic diathesis, thrombotic disorders, renal insufficiency, myocardial infarct, history of transplantation or bariatric surgery) specific contraceptive options are available. Intrauterine device insertion procedure can be done.
Gynecology :
In our gynecology clinic, in addition to diagnosis and treatment of gynecologic disorders, women from adolescence to menopouse are examined routinely for primary prevention of diseases. Uterine myomas, ovarian cysts, endometrial polyps, bartholin cysts, ectopic pregnancies, endometriosis, pelvic organ prolapse and urinary incontinance are treated. Biopsies are taken from vulvar, vaginal, cervical, uterine, salpingeal, ovarian lesions for diagnosis, therapeutic operations are performed via minimally invasive surgery (laparoscopy, hysteroscopy), open surgery (laparoscopy) or vaginally.
Assisted Reproductive Techniques Center (In Vitro Fertilization Center):
In our Assisted Reproductive Techniques Center, diagnosis and treatment procedures are carried out for couples desiring child. Patients are examined in detail, intrauterine insemination (IUI) and in vitro fertilizatio (IVF) treatments are performed if indicated. Habitual abortion and diseases involving reproductive endocrinology like polycystic ovary syndrome are evaluated in our center, aside from that, infertility operations (hyssteroscopy, laparoscopy) are performed. Oocyte and sperm cryopreservation and preimplantation genetic diagnosis are the procedures that our center serve.
Gynecologic Oncology :
The aim of our Gynecologic Oncology clinic is to provide extensive and evidence based treatment to gynecologic oncology patients. Aside from vulvar, vaginal, cervical, endometrial, fallopian tube and ovarian carcinoma operations, pelvic soft tissue tumors, gestational trophoblastic diseases; precancerous lesions of vulva vagina and cervix are treated successfully. Our gynecologic oncology team uses a wide range of procedures including colposcopy, endometrial biopsy for early diagnosis of gynecologic cancers and advanced surgical techniques for malignities. Gynecologic oncology operations are performed endoscopically or using open technique. Sentinel lymph node mapping in eligible patients prevents unnecessory lympadenectomy thereby decreasing complications like edema. In advanced stage pelvic cancers or tumor recurrences radical surgeries including pelvic exanteration are performed. Our patients are discussed in Oncology Council including physicians from Medical Oncology, Radiation Oncology, Radiology, Nuclear Medicine and Pathology Departments to provide the best possible treatment options.
Perinatology:
The goal of our Perinatology Clinic is to diagnose and to plan treatment for maternal and fetal medical problems during pregnancy. In high risk pregnancies, comprehensive counseling is provided to the family and management strategies are based on current literature. In our unit, cutting edge ultrasound devices are used for first trimester Down syndrome screening test (NT nuchal tranlucency measurement), first trimester/second trimester detailed fetal anatomic evaluation, serial growth measurements and color Doppler imaging. Multidisciplinary approach offers a high quality antenatal care service in major congenital anomalies and underlying maternal medical conditions. Invasive procedures (chorionic villus biopsy, amniocentesis, fetal blood sampling) are performed in patients with increased risk of genetic diseases and chromosomal aberrations. Fetal diseases can be treated prenatally in our unit with interventions including intrauterine transfusion, thoracentesis, amnioreduction.
