Otorhynolaryngology
Kocaeli University Faculty of Medicine, Department of Otorhinolaryngology and Head and Neck Surgery, has been providing full-fledged service in the light of advanced technology and scientific developments since its establishment in 1994. We provide advanced care across the spectrum of head and neck disorders with surgeons practicing in all areas of specialty, including general otolaryngology, allergy, pediatric otolaryngology, facial plastic reconstructive surgery, head and neck oncology surgery, laryngology, rhinology, otology and sleep disorders. In addition to meeting the health care needs of patients with disorders involving the entire spectrum of otolaryngology, our department participates in the very best education of medical students as well as postgraduate education of physicians in the field of otorhinolaryngology for more than 20 years. Currently, our faculty was accredited by UTEAK, and our Otorhinolaryngology Department has been accredited by the Turkish Society of Otorhinolaryngology and Head and Neck Surgery. We remain steadfast in our resolve to train the next generation of physicians who will be of the finest character, exceptional thinkers, and extraordinary technical experts.
The outpatient clinic of our department is provided to more than 20,000 patients per year, and more than 1000 specific planned surgeries are performed. All services that have been provided are implemented by up-to-date and appropriate approaches within the framework of ethical principles.
In addition to having General otolaryngology outpatient clinics, our department also has;
- Head and Neck Surgery outpatient clinic,
- Rhinology - Allergy outpatient clinic,
- Otology - Balance outpatient clinic,
- Voice - Swallowing Disorders outpatient clinic,
- Facial Plastic outpatient clinic,
- Sleep Disorders outpatient clinic,
each of which provides care for associated disorders on certain days of the week.
OTOLOGY:
One of the most important structures in terms of social communication and education is the ear. Diagnosis and treatment of all ear-related diseases are performed together with the essential advanced surgeries. In terms of hearing loss, detailed hearing evaluations are carried out in our clinic, which is the reference center in Kocaeli.
The surgery for the sclerosis of stapes ossicle (otosclerosis) with laser is being performed in our clinic. Both in congenital or acquired hearing loss that cannot be rehabilitated with a hearing aid, surgical hearing treatments are the option. Advanced hearing aids covered by the social security institution such as BAHA, Cochlear Implant (bionic ear) are applied, depending on the type of hearing loss, and the essential rehabilitation is provided in the subsequent process.
Diagnosis and treatment of our patients who apply with the complaint of vertigo, examinations and procedures for the evaluation and strengthening of balance are performed in our Dizziness and Balance Center./p>
Treatment of facial paralysis with both medical and surgical methods, Investigation of tinnitus and its treatment with various methods, Treatment of Permanent Eardrum damage and Ear infections, Evaluation and treatment of hearing loss, Treatment of tumors in the ear skin and structures in our clinic for many years are being carried out.
Nasal And Paranasal Sinus Diseases (RHINOLOGY):
Medical and both endoscopic and open surgical treatments of nasal diseases such as allergic rhinitis, sinusitis, nasal polyps, nasal obstruction diseases, and tumors of the nose and sinuses are applied in our clinic.
Facial Plastic Surgery:
Primary and secondary rhinoplasty, prominent ear surgery (otoplasty), blepharoplasty, botox and fillers injections and head and skin cancer surgery are applied in our clinic.
Larynx And Voice Disorders (LARYNGOLOGY, PHONIATRY):
The Voice, Speech and Swallowing Disorders Diagnosis and Research Center is a referral institution for the management of larynx and voice diseases with detailed and advanced evaluations in our province.
Advanced evaluations of the vocal cords, larynx, and upper part of the esophagus include endoscopic and videolaryngostroboscopic evaluations where the patients can also see their own record, voice and speech recordings, acoustic voice analysis, before and after treatment voice therapy. Further evaluations are also made on Throat Reflux which has been increasing in recent years and negatively affecting the quality of life of the person.
In addition to the treatment and rehabilitation of diseases with appropriate surgical methods (such as office applications, vocal cord injections, botox applications, and laser surgery), our center provides theoretical and practical basic voice education for the prevention of voice diseases, especially for professional voice users.
Seminars and practical basic voice training program for the protection of the vocal health of professional groups (elite professionals, singers, actors, religious officials, teachers, call center employers, businessmen, doctors, lawyers, etc.) is also given.
Head And Neck Surgery:
Our department have a wide experience and knowledge of head and neck tumors and masses. Laryngeal tumors/masses, Neck masses, Skin tumors, Oral cavity tumors, Nasal and paranasal tumors, Thyroid tumors, and Salivary gland tumors are managed by our Multidisciplinary team. Surgeries of these areas, approaches like transoral laser surgery, nerve monitorization, piezoelectric surgeries, and local/regional/free flap surgeries are being performed by our surgeons. Necessary rehabilitations after head and neck surgeries are also being performed.
